i've had the idea of starting my very own quilt wall ever since the first time i saw this picture...
in fact i was so taken with it that i had to find out more, which eventually led me to this book...'Collecting American Country' by Mary Ellison Emmerling published in 1983.
Well, i was so thrilled to finally source a preloved copy of this amazing book... a definite 'must have' for collectors and anyone who's contemplating on starting a collection.
it's an AMAZING book and my favourite.. by far.
and there on page 130...
THAT picture....
this collection of doll quilts is from the 19th and 20th centuries. i especially love the T-shaped quilts which were made for tiny four-poster doll beds.
Now.. i'd like to share a few randomly chosen pictures from this gorgeous book. Take a peak inside, and if you're an avid collector, as i am, i'm sure there'll be something to inspire you...
now i ask you, who wouldn't want to be a collector after seeing those pictures?? oh and btw there's loads more pics to drool over...another 266 pages to be exact.
SO..now i guess you might be wondering about the wall of quilts and have i done anything about starting my own?? well..the answer is yes, i have, and i can't wait to share it with you.
But first, i want to show you the stack of quilts that i'll be hanging on the wall..
these are my monthly small quilt challenge quilts.
so here they are on one of the blank walls in our study...there's Jan, Feb, March & April.
and in case you might be wondering why i've only hung four quilts??
The reason for that is... about six weeks ago i sent my little May challenge quilt to the USA for a doll quilt show at Temecula Quilt Co.
here's a pic of it [centre quilt, stars with black sashing]... in the company of so many other delightful doll quilts (photo courtesy of Temecula Quilt Co)
If you love doll quilts you must pop over to their blog and have a peek. There are so many sweet doll quilts on display, including several gorgeous antique ones as well.
So, now i'm patiently waiting, for my May quilt to return back home from its little holiday in the States, and as soon as it does you know what's going to happen to it don't you?? it's going straight to the quilt wall, that's right...next to April where it belongs :)))

Oh I have this amazing book!! It's my favorite as well.
Love the idea of a wall for small quilts. Have you seen Kathie's from inspiredbyantiquequilts.blogspot.com? She has a lovely wall of quilts in her sewing room.
Congratulations on your quilt displayed at Temecula Quilt Co.! It's a beauty!

Fabulous book! I love all the collections on the wall but my favorite has to be the dishcloths...like something from nothing.
Your quilt wall looks like its really shaping up wonderfully. Thanks for the link to Temecula...I have some doll quilts I started but never finished-hoping I'll get inspired and they're another good project to get me back into sewing.
