I love swaps, especially when you're matched with someone with similar likes... and that was the case with a recent pincushion swap i participated in. Bronywn and i share a love of civil war fabrics, small quilts and antiques.. a perfect match!!
my heart did a little skippety-skip when i received my 'surprise' package in the mail, yesterday...
love the wrapping paper & card...
i let out a little squeal as i opened it up to reveal the goodies inside...
OMGoodness the most gorgeous pincushion, in my fave colours.. she knows me too well!! a lovely magnetic bookmark, very handy for popping those concert tickets & such-like on the fridge.. and a sweet notebook, just the thing for keeping track of all my sewing projects... i couldn't be HAPPIER!!
i was so thrilled with my new pincushion, i simply couldn't put it down. It's the loveliest design and Bronwyn's attention to detail is nothing short of perfection... the patchwork squares are tiny one inch squares.
on closer inspection i was delighted & moved by the words that Bronwyn stitched, so beautifully, around the mid-section of the pincushion... "stitch with your heart.. sew with your soul" how beautiful is that.. and i just love all those tiny cross stitches...
but there was another hidden surprise i didn't expect..
take a closer peek..
can you see my initials ME and two tiny daisies, stitched on one of the squares.. how adorable is that, isn't she clever??!!
Bronwyn you're full of lovely surprises.. i LOVE it... thank you!!
i mentioned that Bronwyn and i share a love of antiques, and in one of her emails she let slip that she collects Depression glass, in particular rose & amber glass. I just happened to have a little amber glass dish, in a cupboard, somewhere??.. so glad i found it because it was the perfect size for the pincushion design i had in mind.
i love making hexagons and in no time i had the centre hexies whipped up..
next came the outer hexies..
and here's the finished pincushion, a snug fit inside the amber glass bowl..
i couldn't resist sending Bronwyn a few extra goodies... in the shape of a mini spool quilt, pins & needles, sulky thread, and a some civil war fabric charms...
and they all fit snuggly inside a vintage tin.. perfect!!
This was such a fun swap and after receiving Bronwyn's email last night, i can honestly say that we are both extremely delighted with our pincushions.. i couldn't be happier... thank you, Bron :))
