This month's SQT challenge was Kathy's Prairie Points Doll Quilt (Remembering Adelia)... which just happens to be one of my fave designs, so i was keen to get started.
Once again, i dug into my scrap bag and pulled out lots & lots of 1 1/2inch fabric squares, for the centre blocks.
From the begining, i knew i wanted to make a smaller version of Kathy's quilt, so it didn't take too long to make the six sub blocks.
i also opted for two different shirtings for the background, just to mix it up a little...
next came the fun part.. making the prairie points... and what a pleasant surprise, they were were so easy to make.. gotta love that!!
after sewing on the prairie points, it was time to add the border.
I'm not mad about wide borders on small quilts, and as i was making a smaller version, i decided a 2 1/2" border was wide enough.
you know my preference for unfussy quilting.. so cross hatch quilting seemed the obvious choice...
As for the borders... three straight rows of quilting half an inch apart.. yep, that'll do.
but first i have to add the binding... yes, you can sew the binding on before you quilt the borders.. works like a charm. That's another thing i love about making small quilts :))
this little doll quilt measures 16" x 22" and i haven't yet decided whether to wash it, or not.. i'm not sure how the prairie points will look, when they're washed and crinkly... i'll have to think about that!
doesn't it look cute on the vintage hanger Bronwyn gave me.. love it!!
i really enjoyed this month's small quilt challenge.. love those scrappy prairie points :))
Is that another one to add to your quilt wall??? Very cute!!! Can't believe the way you churn out these tiny quilts!! x

Marian......yet another delightful dolls quilt. You made me get up & go to the book shlf to get my copy of Remembering Adelia, the temptation to drop everything & start the same quilt
I can't do it I'm finishing a Quilted Crows small wool applique quilt. A felt robot toy for a friends new baby, I've decided to whip up a mantle runner in felt & it's in the penny rug style (I'm making it up as I go)And yesterday whilst at the post office in Yarra Junction, they had lovely wool, giant 15mm knitting needles & a free pattern for one of those loopy scarves. Guess whose 1/2 way through making a scarf????

Marian your mini version is gorgeous...I'm at the point of stitching the sub-blocks to the backgrounds, almost up to those prairie points...you've certainly provided motivation :)

Your mini quilt is beautiful! Love all the hand quilting. You've inspired me to pull out my scraps and get started on this one. It's such a sweet quilt.
