On Tuesday 30th November it was my mum's 5th anniversary..she died three months short of her 95th birthday. The years have flown and yet it seems like she's been gone for so much longer...i miss her.
My mother led a very interesting life, she was born on 22 Feb 2009, the youngest of four children. At the age of 16 she entered the convent and was a nun for 10 years. With the onset of ill health and early signs of tuberculosis, [ in her mid twenties] she was physically removed from the convent by her father, never to return. Within two years of leaving the convent she met her husband-to-be, my dad, and before long they were married.
Mum was 29 when she had her first baby, my eldest brother, Anton...she was 43 when she gave birth to me..the youngest of five. She lived through two world wars, lost her own mother while she was pregnant with Anton, emigrated to Australia in 1956 with five kids in tow [i was four] and she out-lived her two husbands. She had many talents which included, playing the violin, dress-making, knitting, crochet, embrodery just to name a few. She was a wonderful homemaker & a fabulous cook.
I consider myself blessed to have had such an inspiring mother who taught me to sew and knit at the age of six. She encouraged me to follow my dreams and was proud of my achievements. She passed on a wonderful legacy which i in turn have passed onto my four children...that is, be true & kind to yourself and others, follow your dreams...all things are possible if you truly believe.
